We have decided to delay working out who to put into a pension scheme for some members of staff, what information do we need to send these individuals?

You must write to tell the staff that you are delaying working out who to put into a pension scheme (postponement). You will need to give the notice no later than six weeks and a day from the date postponement starts.

Our postponement letter template for all employees helps you write to your staff. You can tailor the letter template to your needs.

If any of your staff write to you asking to join a pension scheme during the postponement period, you must put them into one once you have received their request.

You will have to pay into the pension scheme if they are:

  • aged 16-74
  • and earn at least £520 a month or £120 per week.
